Welcome
to Reggae Soul Jazz
Welcome to my Reggae Soul Jazz page.
I've had the idea to combine reggae and jazz for many years. Ever since
I heard the album "Below the Bassline" by the father of reggae jazz
guitar, Ernest Ranglin. He combined reggae and jazz in a way that
created the template for the style. I love his style but I tried to
create a mix of music that best represented the kind of music that I
listened to and that I have played
with different artists over the years. It's a bit on the smoother side
of jazz and reggae.
I have been a sideman for smooth jazz artists such as Euge Groove,
Marion Meadows, Oli Silk, Marcus Johnson, Jeanette Harris, Michael
Ward, Jaared and Nestor Torres. I've also performed with
r&b/soul
artists such as Jodeci, Heather Headley, Chris Brown and New Edition.
As a solo artist I've had the pleasure of opening up for reggae artists
Kymani Marley, Banki Banx, Third World, Maxi Priest and Shaggy.
I grew up listening to reggae artists such as Bob Marley, Steel Pulse,
Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown, Jimmy Cliff and many others. The hypnotic
groove of reggae really puts me in a good mood. Later I started
listening to jazz guitarists like Grant Green, Wes Montgomery and Joe
Pass. So when I heard Ernest Ranglin for the first time it all
made sense to me to make music that satisfies your mind and your soul.
Good jazz harmonies and solid reggae grooves to move your body to.
My next collection of songs will be more straight ahead reggae grooves.
I want to make an album like "Below the Bassline" with a harder edge
reggae feel. My hope is to get Ronnie McQueen, original member of one
of the most influential reggae bands in history, Steel Pulse, to bless
my songs with his impeccable bass playing. Check out all their albums
from "Handsworth Revolution" to "Earth Crisis" to hear their genius. If
I can achieve that level of greatness I will be a very happy musician.
